Warning of freezing temperatures:
All cold sensitive plants must be covered (to the ground). Don't throw sheets on top with the bottom open, this is worse for the plants. Plastic sheeting is NOT recommended. Putting C7 or C9 Christmas lights on plants or lying on the ground under your "tent" will help keep them warmer. Water thoroughly and allow foliage to dry completely before covering. You should finish watering by 2 PM.
After the temperature stress we do recommend watering with our Bee Thrive Vitamin Mix, a hormone designed to help plants recover from stress of temperature change and transplanting. Also you should began a treatment of all palms with Dithane M45 fungicide to prevent fungus in the crown possibly killing the palm.
Mixture Ratio and Treatment Plan: 2T per gallon of water directly into crown 1X Per Week for 1 Month
**Pruning is reccommended for the last week of March when the threat of frost is gone....BUT.....Who wants to look at those ugly, brown, damaged plants for the next THREE Months!?! When pruning you may cut back plants half way and some to ground level. This will make them flush out new growth and be stronger and fuller due to the pruning. IF....COLD weather approaches you MUST follow the covering instructions completely.
REMEMBER.......PLANTS WITH NO LEAVES REQUIRE LITTLE TO NO WATER!!! OVERWATERING CAUSES MORE DEATH AFTER THE FREEZE THEN THE ACTUAL COLD!
***Stop by our store so we may assist you with further questions. We also educate you the 2nd Saturday of every month with varying topics. Keep warm and good luck!
